Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about the Smart Sea Freight chartering platform.
What is Smart Sea Freight?
Smart Sea Freight is a comprehensive ship chartering platform that automates voyage estimation, fuel calculations, cargo management, and commercial operations for chartering professionals worldwide.
How does fuel calculation work?
The platform categorizes distances into Normal and ECA zones. HS fuel is consumed for Normal distances, LS fuel for ECA distances, and MGO for auxiliary needs — all calculated automatically based on vessel consumption profiles.
What vessel fuel types are supported?
We support 5 fuel type configurations: Type 1 (Non-Scrubber), Type 2 (Scrubber Fitted), Type 3 (LNG), and Types 4-5 for custom user-defined fuel combinations. Each vessel's HS, LS, and MGO consumption is configurable per speed.
Can I model different cargo-vessel combinations?
Yes. The Cargo Vessel Playground lets you simulate any cargo-vessel pairing with real-time voyage cost estimates, compare multiple vessels against the same cargo, and optimize your fixture decisions.
How does the laytime calculator work?
E-Laytime automates demurrage and despatch calculations based on charter party terms, handling exceptions, weather days, and holidays. It generates exportable statements ready for counterparty review.
Does the platform support multi-leg voyages?
Absolutely. You can model complex multi-port itineraries with different loading and discharging ports, ballast legs, canal transits, and ECA zone crossings — all reflected in fuel and cost calculations.
What market data is available?
Market Curve Analysis provides historical freight rate curves, forward projections, and comparative intelligence across major trade routes. You can overlay your own fixtures against market benchmarks.
Is there an API for integration?
Professional and Enterprise plans include API access for integrating voyage estimates, vessel data, and port information with your existing ERP, accounting, or risk management systems.
